Disclaimer: This is how ZRPG understands darknuts, based off of the complete series of the Legend of Zelda. The information is a guideline of how the race is displayed throughout the game, and your character may have a variation of some or none of these traits.

Name: Darknut

Lifespan: 0-80

Genders: Male and Female

Breeding: Mammalian

Occupations: Most Darknuts become warriors, wielding great broadswords and shields. Several have been minions of Gannon in the past, but there are some clans that oppose such things and train to combat the evil that would use them.

Appearance: Darknuts have large muscular bodies, and stand on average a foot taller than a full grown Hylian. They have large and imposing canine like heads, and coupled with their red eyes and imposing mouth full of wolf like teeth can easily intimidate even the boldest of Hylians. Most of the time their heads are covered in their plate helmets, making seeing any of these extremely difficult. They are almost always armored from head to toe, but when they shed their armor they typically are wearing a training undershirt. The shirt is normally sleeveless and very light weight.

The actual armor of a darknut ranges in color, it is said that when under the service of the Evil King, color determines rank, with grey being the lowest and black/red being the highest colors. The higher ranking darknuts often have capes as well, concealing the armor’s most vulnerable point from view. The armor between the ranks is surprisingly similar however, they are all full plate, and extremely durable. It is extremely cumbersome which greatly restricts movement in combat, making quick movements near impossible. Some darknuts have chosen in the past to fight without the full plate armor, choosing only to wear light leather or chain mail armor to protect themselves, which allows them a greater mobility on the battlefield.

Personality: Most darknuts exhibit aggressive behavior, especially to those they do not know or trust. Those that were in the service of the King of Evil often attacked anyone not allied with them on sight. However Darknuts that are not in Gannon’s employ have been said to accept outsiders who can prove their trust and abilities, and even regarded some few outsiders as equals, and trust in them as they would any other darknut.

Skills/abilities: Most darknuts are incredibly skilled with swordplay due to their lifetime of dedication and training. They are incredibly strong and able to lift and move amounts that most Hylians can’t.

Location: They are scattered among the outskirts of Hyrule and beyond, but individual ones or small groups can be seen inside Hyrule. The clans and tribes tend to keep to themselves in their own territories, always wary of prejudice outsiders. The most common place for these settlements is in the Gerudo Desert.

Beliefs: The Darknuts don’t normally acknowledge the three goddesses as their deities, but have a shamanistic culture, looking towards elders and seers for guidance.

History: Darknuts form their tribes and clans on the fringes of Hylian lands, far away from the Hylian cities and villages. The highest concentration of these tribal settlements exist in the hot deserts of Hyrule, where there is the least amount of outsiders to bother the canine warriors. The desert and other harsh environments in which these creatures live also help to strengthen them in their combat oriented culture.

The darknuts have lived and trained in these areas for generations, keeping the same ceremonial traditions as time passes. They live and train and pass on their knowledge and skills as the next generation comes of age. It is rare to see darknuts wander far from their clan, as they are devoted creatures, but every so often darknuts tend to leave the clans in search of adventure or great battles. Most end up finding their way back to their homes, and recount their great stories of the outside world to those who never have and never will leave.
